Ring Of Honor Wrestling-Episode #265 (Review)

ROH! ROH! ROH! Hello readers, I am the Local Hero himself, the man forever known as The Review Guy, Cameron Mcdonley with another review. As you can infer, this is another review of one of the most consistent, enjoyable, and all around the best pure wrestling show on this planet, Ring Of Honor! Following two specials emanating from MCU Park, we are now in the midst of the fallout from what is considered by many as PPV of the year for ROH, All-Star Extravaganza! Without any further interruptions, let's head to the Lakeland Civic Center for this week's hour of amazing wrestling action!

The show opens with an unmistakable entrance by one of the most notorious wrestling factions to come around in years, the Bullet Club. Led by the Ring Of Honor World Champion, Adam Cole, they made quite the presence at the PPV a month ago, with Kyle O' Reilly being taken out by Adam Page, the champion himself besting Michael Elgin in a solid encounter and the Young Bucks regaining the ROH World Tag Team Championships once again in the most brutal Ladder War in company history. Imaginably, they narrowed all of those impressive feats in one promo that was no doubt a trademark of this stable. They bragged and they basked in their glory while arrogantly displaying their overconfidence. A very good heel promo by the Bullet Club to start off the broadcast.

The match that opened this hour was far from your average contest, as it was an uncontrollable brawl between Shane Taylor, Keith Lee, and War Machine, who have shown a lot of hatred towards one another in recent weeks. All of that was display in a fight that was a war between these two teams, no pun intended. No headlocks or moves here, just a lot of leniency by the official as there were punches thrown, chairs wielded and many other happenings that in any other profession would immediately be classified as disorderly conduct and possible assault. After all the blood that was shed in this match and all the malice that was behind each shot and throw, War Machine obtained the victory but it was far from over, as Shane Taylor attacked Ray Rowe from behind alongside his partner Keith Lee, who had no problem doing the same to Hanson. This rivalry is far, far from over, regardless of the thoughts that some ROH fans have about this feud.

The 6-Man Tag Team Tournament continues in our next match, as one of the most entertaining stables in wrestling by my estimation, The Cabinet oppose Jason Kincaid, Leon St. Giovanni and Shaheem Ali in a match that was not the best match I've seen from any of these 6 men, but it was still enjoyable, as Caprice Coleman bumped like a madman because that's his usual routine, Kenny King showed off his uncanny ability to be athletic and quick as a fox in that ring, Kincaid impressed me once again with his agility and Rhett Titus was just being, well Rhett Titus. I couldn't tell you the exact time that the match lasted, but it lasted a decent amount of time with the right people going over, which was The Cabinet. Fun match!

Our main event of the evening was an exciting one, at least for me, as Jay Lethal was up against one of the most underrated wrestlers in ROH, Silas Young. This one had the potential to be so much more than it was, with Lethal being a exceptional competitor and Silas having all the tools to be ROH World Champion, but with all the combustible elements such as Adam Cole being on commentary until he interfered, Kyle O' Reilly attacking Cole and the Bullet Club causing the match to be a no-contest, it fell flat after 15 minutes of very solid in-ring action. Although the no-contest allowed for an exciting ending to television this week with all of the men involved brawling over the championship and Silas Young standing tall at the end with the title in his grasp for the moment, what could've been a phenomenal match was cut short. That's all I have to complain about however, still highly enjoyable!

Although I gave this episode a lower rating this week, I still enjoyed it and to be honest, it was still the best show I've seen this week next to the latest episode of Lucha Underground. That's all I have to say, it was fun to watch.

ROH Episode #262 Review: 9/28/16

I have returned once again ladies and gents, my name is Cameron Mcdonley, and I am a certified reviewer, and a bonafide smark, and you can't teach that. This website right here, is Rest Hold Party, it is the greatest ever and you can't teach that. Bada Boom, realest reviewer in the room, how ya' readin'!

Yeah, safe to say I won't ever do that lame intro ever again. Anyway, this is one of two reviews for the day, this one is ROH, Episode 262. There are nothing but positive things that needed to be said about this episode as usual, so let's get to another great show!

The show begins with a match between "Pro Wrestling's Last Real Man" Silas Young, and Toru Yano. The match was an entertaining one, filled with the wild antics of the GHC Tag Team Champion and the counteractive negativity of Silas Young. The story told was one of comical taste, but the in-ring action was stiff and didn't let up, although everybody payed attention to Yano's hilarity throughout the contest. The match ends with Silas Young using old school heel tactics to get the win, marking the 3rd time in three consecutive weeks that a Ring Of Honor competitor obtained a victory over a New Japan or Pro Wrestling NOAH performer. Tides are changing in ROH, and it's certainly to make this amazing show even better! Great match, enjoyed every minute of it!

Preceding this comedic and fun match, the show takes a more serious tone for the remainder of the hour, starting with an epic, passionate promo from "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. I swear to God, I have not seen a promo this intense, this emotional, this heartfelt and genuine in almost a decade. From his facial mannerisms to his body language all the way down to speaking about him being a horrible father and husband, this just screamed passion straight from the heart. A life without the Ring Of Honor World Tag Team Championships is a life he's not interested in, and he'd rather watch his family die than to let go of his championship belt. Although the feelings are certainly not legitimate, the way he conveyed his thoughts and feelings felt that way, and I don't know about you, but I consider that a job well done.

From here, the show goes from serious and somber, to a tone of absolute darkness reigning over Las Vegas. Punishment Martinez went one on one against Cheeseburger and brutally dominated, but that's far, far from the primary thing worth mentioning in this match. Steve Corino and Kevin Sullivan were conversing back and forth, with the former leader of S.C.U.M failing to understand the reason why he was spiked on the head by his prodigal father at Best In The World earlier this year. Will Ferrara tried to help his fallen brethren after the contest, but the beating continued with no saving grace as BJ Whitmer laid out Ferrara and continued to assault him after he was unconscious. Sullivan dared and nearly begged Corino to put his hands on him and the rest of his "family", but nothing of the sort was done.

We come back from commercial break with a replay of a promo by Whitmer that was done during the advertisements, stating that Corino's day to make the decision is upon him, that they are his salvation and he is theirs. Recovering from that statement,"The King Of Old School" was seen gazing at the spike that started this all back in June. When asked by his broadcast partner Kevin Kelly about confronting him in the desert, all that came out of his mouth was a yes. I for one, am very intrigued by this entire angle and am hoping to find our what this confrontation in the desert will entail. Just a fantastic angle, one of the best I've seen in this business since the mid-2000's, if not ever.

Most of the promos in the All-Star Extravaganza preview were really enjoyable, but the one that stood out to be the most was Adam Cole's. It wasn't one of the best promos ever and it certainly will not be as timeless as the one we witnessed from Daniels earlier, however it still implored me to listen to every word that the leader of the Bullet Club had to say, so it was still as great as the promos we've been hearing tonight. Most of all, it sold me even more to a rematch that I've been waiting to see since Best In The World 2014, and by all accounts that makes this a great promo. Well done.

The main event of the already eventful evening was "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs The Bullet Club (Adam Cole & Hangman Page), and I must say, it was far from a bad match as you can get. Tanahashi may not be the ace of Japan anymore, but he still can wrestle in that ring at the highest level, and this match is all the evidence you need of that. Even with a recurring back injury, this man can still wrestle better at 80% than most wrestlers can in their prime physical condition. Elgin displayed his inhuman power in every move and hold as per usual, and Adam Cole was once again at his best, especially when he sold for his opponent. Nobody in ROH sells like their world champion, I can assure you that. Hangman Page was the dark horse in this match, as he may not have been the most physical, but he had the traits of a classic heel with everything he did. Overall, I was highly entertained and enthralled by this match, as it completed its objective to inject a lethal dose of the hype train into their upcoming PPV this Friday.

StandOut Rankings! September 12-19th

     Hello everyone it's the Headlock Master of the RHP cast, Dean Elliot and I'm here to show you who I believe stared the best in their respected promotions this week in wrestling. I'll be covering all American Wrestling promotions, so enjoy... or you can be a wanker and read the dime to my dollar, Cameron's reviews. I'm just joking Cam, don't kill me. 

TNA: Aron Rex

    The man formally known as Damien Sandow forced him to nominate him this week. Eddie Edwards also advanced in the Grand Championship Tournament and EC3 did return on Impact... but they've had their moments. This is Rex's debut and if he can't shine here, then he'll never.

   Anyway, he defeated Trevor Lee in round 2 in a match that wasn't that good. The concept of this title sounds good on paper but this can't deliver good matches and it underwhelms people like Aaron Rex who can't get over solely on shoots on WWE.

   Anyway, his finisher looked brutal, it was of confuse a running rolling forearm. Anyway, this wasn't a great debut, but the highlight!

ROH: Jay Lethal

    Jay Lethal came off losing his ROH World Championship with a kayfabe chasing the title storyline. At the only ROH show he was on this week, he teamed with EVIL and Naito because they had a one night storyline that was about stopping the common enemy which was the Bullet Club. They eventually dipped out on Lethal, leaving Jay in a 3-1 predicament.

  This was until Nigel McGuinness brought out Elgin and O'Reilly who are the two other top contenders and the 6 man tag was almost restarted. Lethal ended up winning which made him look very very strong as he held his own alone against the Bullet Club for a long time. Also I believe this'll set up a 4 corner survival match. Even though I believe Cole will face Elgin at All Star Extravaganza.

SmackDown Live: AJ Styles

    AJ Styles! What is more to say about who I consider the best wrestler of our generation. He defeated Ambrose in a heel fashion which wasn't needed as nobody really complained at all. Everyone seemed more happy then angry, angry was what I'd assume they wanted as Styles is a heel and won dirty. 

    Styles had a great Backlash and did great the following Smackdown where he dropped a decent promo which he botched once but it was forgotten. He ended the night losing but not getting pinned, Styles truly had an amazing week!

RAW: Rusev

   Rusev made a big splash as he returned tonight after a lifelong honeymoon. He took out Roman Reigns after Roman decided to be a douche and take out Rusev while he was already injured because Rusev was defending his wife's honor... really, who understands this storyline and genuinely sees Rusev as the bad guy? Anyway, he made Roman humble and ended the night on a big note as RAW got a big star back on television. 

    What should be considered is that RAW didn't do all so good the week Rusev came back. So it wasn't very difficult to not have him as this spot. Hopefully tomorrow he increases ratings.

American Independence: 

Cody Rhodes

Now, now, I was going to say Marty Scurll following his enormous victory at the Battle of Los Angeles and the fact that he is the current PROGRESS champion. But, this is American Independence and BOLA was 2 weeks ago. So this week must go to the man who's made headlines on the independence. And that's an understatement!

    Cody Rhodes (who'll soon go by another name in Ring Of Honor and IMPACT) has been all around the world this week. All beginning in his WrestlePro in a brutal encounter against his first opponent ever. Yes, the man he first faced in a ring was his recent in WrestlePro. Pat Buck took on Cody in a pretty good match which Cody ended up winning and afterwards delivering an emotional speech putting over Buck. 

    He then went on to Evolve 69 to wrestle alongside Johnny Wrestling himself in Gargano's final match in EVOLVE. Which was dubbed 'Farewell to an Icon.' Cody and Johnny wrestled the tag champs, Hero and Gulak and cake out on top in an emotional speech following it. This match was the main highlight of Cody's week in my opinion.

    Cody will conclude this week when he goes against Tomasso Ciampa in Ciampa's final independent match in his career! At XWA Cross Rhodes, the two face off tonight which will be emotional and a great match.
